Double Entry Doors

Twice the entrance. Twice the impact.

Double entry doors swing open from a center mullion, creating a dramatic, wide entrance that’s perfect for larger homes, formal entries, and houses where the front door is meant to be the architectural focal point.

Understanding Double Entry Doors

When Double Entry Doors Make Sense

Double entry doors typically run 5 to 6 feet wide overall — both panels can be operable, or one can be fixed (an “active” door with a fixed “inactive” sidelite panel). The look is unmistakable: grander proportions, a wider welcome, and serious curb appeal that single doors can’t match.

Double doors are most common on homes with two-story foyers, formal architecture (Colonial, Georgian, Mediterranean), and properties where the entrance is set back from the street and needs visual weight. They’re also great for moving furniture in and out — a practical advantage for active families.

Why Choose Double Entry Doors

Six Reasons to Pick Double Entry Doors

What makes our double entry doors stand out from anything else you can buy in the Charlotte area.

Wide Dramatic Opening

Both doors open for a true 5-6 foot entrance — moving furniture, entertaining, and welcoming guests all easier.

Architectural Statement

Double doors instantly elevate a home’s presence — appropriate for Colonial, Georgian, Mediterranean, and grand estate architectures.

Multi-Point Locking

Active door uses multi-point locking; inactive door uses cane bolts top and bottom — both secure and weathertight.

Center Astragal Seal

Where the doors meet, a weatherstripped astragal provides a continuous seal against drafts, water, and pests.

Coordinated Finishes

Match the finish, glass pattern, and hardware across both doors — or contrast them intentionally for a designer look.

Lifetime Warranty

Both door slabs, hardware, finish, and installation backed by our transferable lifetime warranty.

Frequently Asked

FAQs About Double Entry Doors

What size opening do I need for double entry doors?

Standard double doors are 5 or 6 feet wide overall. Larger configurations (7-8 feet with sidelites) are available. We can also expand existing single-door openings if the wall framing allows.

Can both doors actively open?

Yes — both can be active, or one active and one inactive. We recommend at least one active panel for daily use; the other can be a true second active door, or fixed for stability and easier weatherproofing.

Are double entry doors less secure than single doors?

Not if installed properly. We use multi-point locks on the active door and cane bolts on the inactive panel — combined, the security is equivalent to or better than a single door.

How much do double entry doors cost?

Typically 60-90% more than a comparable single door. The exact cost depends on materials, glass, hardware, and whether the existing opening needs modification.

How long does double door installation take?

Typically 6-10 hours for a same-size replacement. If we’re expanding the existing single-door opening, it can take 1-2 days due to framing work and exterior trim.

Do double doors leak more than single doors?

Only if poorly installed. Properly weatherstripped with a quality astragal seal, double doors are no draftier than a single door. We use compression sealing on all sides of both panels.
